Nov 03, 2014 · Karma : Posted: 19:13 - 03 Nov 2014 Post subject: Engine hesitating when accelerating UPDATE: Mystery solved. Noticed this on my way home today. With the throttle rolled on at a constant level, accelerating after changing gear, the bike pulls smoothly up to 5k revs then kinda hesitates for half a second before pulling cleanly again up to 8k+. I didn't change my input on the throttle or go near the clutch.

Sep 12, 2018 · Theories suggested on another motorcycle forum: 1. A Shadow owner had a similar issue and his problem was a bad stator and/or regulator (I think he replaced both). 2. Someone suggested this may be a failure of the float height, which could exhibit these exact symptoms. What I really hope this ISN'T is loss of compression.
With current Big Twin gearing, top gear at 2500 rpm returns a road speed of 60 mph and 3500 delivers 84 mph. Riders sometimes "putt" around at 2000 or less. Even when accelerating to cruising speed, few of us use more than 4000 - 4500 rpm as a shift point.

    4. I have a '94 vulcan with about 25K miles. The bike has been running great with a couple of exceptions, which I'll explain shortly. The other day I was out for a ride for about an hour and I was cruising down the highway when suddenly, the engine started bogging down, losing power but not dying. After pulling over, the bike was still idling but would cutout when I gave it the throttle.
    5. 12. Carburetor Hesitation Problems. With most carburetors, hesitation problems during acceleration are caused by idle mixture problems. This can be fixed by doing a rough adjustment. First, locate the idle mixture screw. Consult your repair manual, if necessary. Bottom the idle mixture screw, but don't force it or you may break something.
    6. A kink in the turbo charger relief valve vacuum hose may also cause the engine to lack power or hesitate during acceleration. Check the hose and replace it with a modified one if it is kinked. The new part is available at the PDC (part # N3A3-20-341A). The part was fixed from 94 on, but I'd check it. --Dae _____
    7. 1991 XV1100 Hesitation in Acceleration from Low rpm? (Netherlands) (SOLVED) When driving low rpm (under 3000) and starting accellerating, my Virago sort of holds back for just a fraction of a second, to then pull like a train. It also hicks up when driving steady under 3000 rpm. It seems like it just misses a beat sometimes.

But since it's a family car, not a sports car, this really isn't much of an issue. Don't bury the gas pedal off every light and you won't even notice. Save.
    9. 1985 K100 Low Speed Hesitation. Issue: At constant throttle below 2500 rpm the bike will buck. It does not occur on acceleration or deacceleration. Above 2500 rpm the engine performs very well and pulls strong all the way to redline. Also, over the past 10,000 miles the fuel mileage has dropped from 41mpg to 36 mpg. (I calculate every tank.
The floats, located in the fuel bowls of Holley four-barrel carburetors, control the fuel delivery system and ensure that the carburetor has a sufficient fuel supply. Some of the most common symptoms of improperly adjusted or sticky floats are hesitation on acceleration, a rough idle, flooding and misfires.
Motorcycle Mechanic: Steve, Motorcycle Mechanic replied 7 years ago you have a lean air/fuel mixture. that I know. what I don't know is why. possible causes are lean jetting or an intake vacuum leak. the first thing to do is check for leaks. with the engine at idle, spray carb cleaner on the intake seals behind the carb, at the heads and along ...
